Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Nicholle Vavra and I am a graduate student in the Education Technology Leadership Program at Lamar University. Originally from Michigan, I have come to love the great state of Texas! My hobbies include running, reading, playing music, and spending time with my family. I attended Michigan Technological University on a track scholarship for the 400 m dash and high jump, but now I run 5k’s to stay in shape.
After earning my degree in Chemistry, I have taught in Michigan, on a Navajo reservation in Utah, and previously in Dallas. I currently teach Algebra 1, Precalculus, and Financial Math in Texas, but I have also taught 7th and 8th grade Math, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Biology, Algebra 2, Geometry, and 9th grade English. While in Utah, I helped to edit and pilot the textbooks for 7th and 8th grade math. I currently serve as a district instructional coach.
No matter what the course is, I always start the year with the belief that this will be a year of becoming problem solvers, not just another year to learn math. My mission is to help foster problem solving and critical thinking in all of my students.
As I complete my Master’s degree, I am excited to continue learning. You will find many of the things I’ve learned in this working document I call my ePortfolio. I have always believed it is important to share what you learn. I hope the words of my husband always ring true, “I learn something new from you every day!”
Here you will find some “Bonus Content”. Beyond my passion for teaching, math, science, and technology, there are many things that shape who I am as a professional and a human being. Simply click on or hover over each image below for a brief caption.
