About Me

Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Nicholle Vavra and I currently serve as an assistant principal. Originally from Michigan, I have come to love the great state of Texas! My hobbies include running, reading, playing music, and spending time with my family. I attended Michigan Technological University on a track scholarship for the 400 m dash and high jump, but now I run 5k’s to stay in shape.

After earning my degree in Chemistry, I have taught in Michigan, on a Navajo reservation in Utah, and previously in Dallas-Fort Worth area. I have taught Algebra 1, Precalculus, and Financial Math in Texas. I have also taught 7th and 8th grade Math, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Biology, Algebra 2, Geometry, and 9th grade English. While in Utah, I helped to edit and pilot the textbooks for 7th and 8th grade math. Before entering in the role as assistant principal I served as a district instructional coach (focusing on math) then as the district instructional technology coach.

No matter what the course is, I always start the year with the belief that this will be a year of becoming problem solvers and relationship building. As a teacher, my mission was to help foster problem solving and critical thinking in all of my students.

During the adventure I call my Master’s degree, I was excited to continue learning. You will find many of the things I’ve learned in this working document I call my ePortfolio. I have always believed it is important to share what you learn. I hope the words of my husband always ring true, “I learn something new from you every day!”
